My Orientation to Teaching class has a unit on diversity. During that unit I read aloud to the class. I love the book Acorn People by Ron Jones is a wonderful story about a boy that works at a summer camp. When he signed up to work at the camp, he envisioned hikes through the woods and lazy afternoon by the pool. It doesn’t take long for before the truth of the camp becomes clear; the camp is for disabled children. The book provides a wonder look into the life of disabled children and how a person’s attitude can change everything. Acorn People is a really good book.
